Watchmen Movie Court Battle...This Sucks!

Watchmen Trailer

If you want to see the trailer in HD wide screen go to this SITE.

Twentieth Century Fox, one of six major film studios in Hollywood has produced and distributed some the greatest and memorable movies since the 1930’s. Fox has also released many prophetic sci-fi films in the last fifty years such as The Day the earth Stood Still, Planet of the Apes, Alien and of course Star Wars.

Remembering back to the days when we older geeks waited in long lines for hours to see Star Wars films in theaters, the audience went crazy wild once the lights dimmed and the Twentieth Century Fox logo and fanfare came up on the big screen. This was the familiar introduction to a galaxy far far away. The iconic Fox fanfare was part of the Star Wars experience and has become a nostalgic symbol for us Star Wars fans.

Recently I’ve been hearing and reading a lot of negative stuff about Fox, especially about the court battle that just began with Warner Brothers over the film rights to Watchmen and this news has tarnished my view of Fox. While other film studios including Fox turned down the opportunity to make Watchmen some years back, Warner Brothers spent tons of money, $100 million dollars to be exact to faithfully adapt IMHO, one of the greatest graphic novels in comics to the big screen. Fox has now filed a lawsuit and is seeking injunction to block the release of Watchmen because they are claiming sole right to produce the film. My question is…how long has Fox known about Watchmen movie and why are they suddenly so interested in the film? It's not like Watchmen movie was some top-secret project. I have a strong suspicion that once Fox executives got hold of the awesome Watchmen trailer and saw the record breaking revenue reports for the Dark Knight, all they saw was dollar signs slowly evaporating right in front of their eyes. This is all about greed and us geeks who have been waiting for a long time to see Watchmen on the big screen might have to wait indefinitely.

If Fox holds Watchmen hostage for a undeserved big piece of the pie and somehow put the breaks on Watchmen in 2009, I think I’ll just start fast forwarding through Fox's fanfare when I watch my Star Wars DVD. Read the "E" On-Line article HERE and Hollywood Reporter article HERE for more details.
