Despite the huge crowd and the long lines, my mother and I went to go see the Frida Kahlo exhibition today at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. My mother who flew back from Seoul couple of days ago wanted to see the artwork of Kahlo, so I willingly made my second trip in one week to MOMA. Even the second time around, I was deeply affected by Kahlo’s personal expressions of physical and psychological pain in her surrealistic paintings, like “The Broken Column” and “The Two Fridas.” Through some her shockingly personal artworks, you can undoubtedly see the torment and horror of Kahlo’s experiences from the injuries she sustained from a bus accident when she was just 18 years old. It was like seeing the turbulent life of Kahlo through a window of her dreams. I knew of Kahlo’s work for a while, but never thought I would enjoy this exhibition as much as I did. There are also many old photos of Kahlo and her love Diego Rivera on display. The Frida Kahlo exhibition will end on September 28th, so you still have couple of weeks to check it out. Go to the San Francisco MOMA link HERE to find out more about it.
